Quality of life: Eindhoven second in world rankings

In November 2022, Accountancy Vanmorgen released its top 50 accounting firms based on revenue. 2021 has been declared the year of the SME office. And we are on the list! Joanknecht managed to secure a well-deserved 42nd spot. A proud moment for all of us!

The overall growth in the accountancy industry remained high in 2021. But SME offices scored significantly better than most, according to the AV Top 50. While the so-called Big4 grew by an average of a mere 1.2 percent in revenue, numbers 5 to 50 on the list grew by 7.1 percent.

Inflation and still higher revenue?

According to Accountancy Vanmorgen, there are several underlying explanations, among which are the shifting business cycle, the changing availability of capital and the sharp rise in monetary depreciation. But the main explanation? Mostly more work due to the government’s emergency support measures and the (still) falling intake of young accountants. Because even in 2021, staff remained scarce in our industry.

Small, local offices are in demand

The total number of staff working at the 50 largest firms decreased by 56 FTEs. The numbers 6 to 50 performed better than the four largest firms in this respect, by the way, showing a trend that staff are trading the Big4 in for smaller, local offices. But this doesn’t mean that the other 46 offices avoided contraction; 10 of the offices became smaller in terms of number of FTEs. Recruiting and retaining employees is still the most important condition for growth.
